Awọn itan pupa / Awọn ara dudu (Colored Stories on Black Bodies)” is an ongoing series of self | non-self-portraits that depict the physical, mental, and spiritual moments that I have encountered through my transition from an African nation (Nigeria) to America. With the use of iconography, body, and gestures I attempt to visualize changes, and experiences; that have happened, and still occur to me or black bodies around me. With the use of fabricated and appropriated African masks, conjuring a spiritual depiction. I continue to expand the reach of the perspective by focusing on the topic of African/black bodies moving through White/unknown spaces, which have a history of displacing and not recognizing them.
